AIR CONDITIONER NOT WORKING IN STATEN ISLAND OR BROOKLYN

3-STEPS A HOMEOWNER CAN DO PRIOR TO CALLING FOR AIR CONDITIONING SERVICE:

Living in New York, we have all experienced thermostat problems, and depending on your location, that would mean no cool air in the peak of the Summer or not heat during a cold Winter.

Staten Island and Brooklyn experience all four seasons so that can leave us feeling very uncomfortable.

Below are some ways you can check prior to making your appointment. At Community II, we offer FREE estimates on replaces, however, take a look to see if this is something that you can do on your own beforehand.

1. CHECK THE SETTINGS

Confirm your thermostat is set to “cooling”. There is an auto or fan on settings. Most owners set their thermostat to “AUTO”

  • AUTO SETTING  : Indoor fan will go on when your thermostat call’s for cooling
  • FAN SETTING : Indoor fan will stay on consistently.

With most programmable thermostat’s, there is a battery back-up. Check and replace the battery, if necessary.

2. Indoor Forced Air Furnace Blower

Indoor Forced Air Furnace Blower is not turning on when calling for central air conditioning.

  • Check the on and off switch. Most times, this switch is on the side of the forced air furnace. Make sure it is in the UP position.

3. Outdoor Condenser Not Running

  • Turn off the air conditioning system
  • Check the circuit breakers
  • Turn them off and back on. Even if they look like they are not tripped
  • Turn on the air conditioning system to see if it corrected the problem

Why Is Water Leaking from My Ceiling?

"THERE'S WATER LEAKING FROM MY CEILING!"

Once the temperature starts to rise in New York and everyone turns their Air Conditioners on, the phone starts ringing!

One of our most frequently asked questions is about water leaking from ceilings. Most of the time, the problem is due to a clogged condensate drain line.

What is a Drain Line?

When your Air Conditioner moves heat from your home, it is also removing humidity, so as air passes over the coils in your AC (or heat pump), the humidity turns into water.

It then gets collected into a pan known as the condensate drain pan.

A Clogged Condensate Drain Line

If the condensate drain line is clogged, this can lead to bigger problems, such as the following:

  • This can lead to hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in water damage
  • A build up of harmful contaminants like mold, mildew, virus, and bacteria
  • House fires. This can happen if leaking water drips onto electrical components which leads to a potential house fire.

So now, what do I do?

What causes the leak is, if the water is dropping from your ceiling, and your furnace and/or air is located in the attic, this is due to a clogged condensate drain line.

If this is ignored, algae will grow inside this drain line and cause back ups and clogs.
